Of course we all dream of taking photos on the most perfect day with the most magical lighting. Sometimes we luck out, but sometimes we have to make the best of some less than ideal weather. Looking at the forecast ahead of your session can be disheartening if you see that it's suddenly showing rain, but don't despair! Not only are rainy day sessions possible, they can also be so fun and can result in really beautiful and unique photos! Below are a few tips to help you feel prepared and ultimate have a blast if rain is in the forecast for your photo shoot:

1. Don’t Worry About Perfection

Rain has a way of inviting truly authentic, candid moments to your shoot. Your boots might get a little muddy, your hair might get wet and wind-blown, but your connection is what will shine through. The less you stress about perfection, the more natural and emotive your photos will be.

2. Wear the Right Shoes

If it's raining, chances are we'll be dealing with puddles, wet grass or muddy trails (maybe all of the above), so chosing shoes that are both stylish AND practical is key—think boots, chunky heels, something you don't mind getting a little muddy. It also may be a good idea to bring a backup pair just in case, even if it's just to have dry feet on your drive home!

3. Pack Backup Essentials

A small towel, extra socks, a few makeup items for touching up and a hairbrush can go a long way. It's also smart to bring a rain jacket to make sure you're staying dry between photos. If we’re out exploring, these little things keep you feeling fresh and comfortable.

5. Embrace The Mood

The most important thing you can bring to your shoot? A great attitude. Leaning into the rainy day vibes and actively deciding to make the most of it is the best thing you can do. Not only will you enjoy the whole experience more, but if you're in the moment and having fun, it will show in the photos!
